How To Stop Facebook Apps From Posting On Your Behalf On Your Timeline And How To Protect Your Private Information From Apps

Hey! When I log into Facebook  I see a lot of posts from my friends who play games on the social network. When you start using any app on Facebook, a pop up box will appear asking you to grant permission to access your account and post on your behalf before you actually start using the app. The poor part here is, once you click on agree, you are granting permission for the app to post on your timeline on your behalf.

Even though all of these may not appear on your timeline, this will appear on all your friends newsfeed who have subscribed to you. You may see your activity feed from your profile to see how much of your posts have been posted in newsfeed.

Why should activity feed not be posted on your timeline?

1. The app is making free advertisement using you and it is without your knowledge.
2. You are not going to gain anything by posting this on your timeline.
3. Your timeline is for keeping track of what you do in real life and not what you do on games.
4. Your friends on whose newsfeed this news appears may get irritated.
5. Also in your notification you keep getting notification when your friend sends in some game request, which is not desirable.

How to stop access to apps without blocking it?

Step 1: From home page of your facebook, click on 'More' next to apps on the right sidebar.

Step 2: Click on the pencil icon next to the game which you play the most and click on edit settings.

Step 3: In the pop over which appears, make the changes as described in the image below:

• Post on your behalf section: Change to 'Only Me' - This will make sure that your posts do not go on the news feed to your friends.
• This App can Also section: Remove everything from this section. This will steel your privacy.
• When to Notify you section: Never to not show notifications at any time.

Now you can still play the game or use the app without disturbing others and with your data being secure. Peace!
