Changing DNS Address

You can change DNS address to Open DNS or Google DNS address for more faster lookups then your ISP DNS or to unblock websites. But If you use open or Google DNS you might get less download speed compare to your ISP DNS.

To change your DNS address in Windows XP


  1. Go to Start → Setting → Control Panel.
  2. After Control Panel gets open double click on Network Connections icon.
  3. Right Click on "Local Area Connection" and go to its Properties or double click on Local Area Connection.
    Note: If you have more then one Local Area Connection then make sure not to click on red x.
  4. Click on Internet Protocol version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and click on properties or double click on Internet Protocol version 4 (TCP/IPv4) 
  5. Now you can fill prefered DNS Server Address and Alternate DNS Server Address as per your need.
  6. After you fill new DNS addresses click on ok.
To change your DNS address in Windows 7 and Vista.
  1. Go to Control Panel.
  2. Double click on Network and Sharing Center or View network status and tasks.
  3. After it gets open click on change adapter setting it will be on left hand side.
  4. Right Click on "Local Area Connection" and go to its Properties or double click on Local Area Connection.
    Note: If you have more then one Local Area Connection then make sure not to click on red x.
  5. Click on Internet Protocol version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and click on properties or double click on Internet Protocol version 4 (TCP/IPv4) 
  6. Now you can fill prefered DNS Server Address and Alternate DNS Server Address as per your need.
  7. After you fill new DNS addresses click on ok.



You can also change DNS address in Windows 7 and Vista
  1. Right click on network and go to its properties.
  2. Click on change adapter setting it will be on left hand side.
  3. Right Click on "Local Area Connection" and go to its Properties or double click on Local Area Connection. 
  4. Click on Internet Protocol version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and click on properties or double click on Internet Protocol version 4 (TCP/IPv4) 
  5. Now you can fill prefered DNS Server Address and Alternate DNS Server Address as per your need.
  6. After you fill new DNS addresses click on ok.
