How to Use User Account and Secure Password

Posted by Unknown  |  at  07:13

Assign passwords to all your administrative powered user accounts. It’s always a good practice to use secure passwords and never to leave it blank . While you install XP, it creates a default administrative powered user account during the installation, XP asks a password for this user account during the installation and most of the users neglect this screen and continues to finish the process.

When the installation is finished XP creates a new user account and the default administrator account still remains with a blank password, this may cause fatal problems if a hacker finds out the secret, that one of your administrator account does not have a password, so make it sure that you provide a strong password while the installation.

The first rule to manage user accounts properly is to provide a strong password and the second one is to use a less privileged user account while working with the internet. Running your computer in administrator mode and connecting it to the internet is a potential risk, as any malware that manages to enter the system will have full control over your system resources.

Notice:
Users of a limited account cannot install software or hardware or cannot change the account name or type. For some programs it’s necessary to be launched by an administrator, for such programs use the “Run As..” option to overcome the problem. Right click the application you want to administrator user name and password. Provide the details and now the software is ready to go. Note that this feature only works when Secondary Logon service running, make sure that this service is running from Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services.

Best Guidline To Secure Window

Posted by Unknown  |  at  05:57

Before Anything Else: Patch Patch and Patch...!
Every operating system needs to be updated, if you want it to be stable and secure. So, first stem to your operating system security is to update your OS. Every operating system needs to be updated to make it stable. Microsoft releases update for vulnerabilities being detected and cop up with these updates is important for your OS security.
To ensure that the security update or patch is applied as soon as it is available, turn on Automatic Updates. Other than operating system updates, Automatics Updates also downloads all high-priority updates for Microsoft Office, Microsoft SQL Server, and Microsoft Exchange Server.

If your PC is offline AutoPatcher is a great tool for updating your system. Search for auto patcher in Google and download the latest version to update you system. Install the latest service packs from Microsoft to ensure that your operating system is up to date.
Install the latest service packs from Microsoft to ensure that your operating system is up to date. The latest SP for windows XP is SP3 and it can be freely downloaded from Microsoft or any other secure third party site.

Ensure Disks Are Formatted With NTFS
NTFS is the recommended file system for windows based operating system. It has better access control and better security compared to the FAT file system. NTFS enable you to decide which user and which group has access to which folders and file on your system.

If you have any FAT or FAT 32 partitions, these can be converted to NTFS using the convert.exe command line utility. To convert a partition NTFS, open a command prompt. Type in “convert drive letter:/fn:ntfs” (without the quotes) to convert “drive-letter” to NTFS. For example, if you want to convert drive F to NTFS, you would type in “convert f:/fs:ntfs”.

How You Can Recover From A Hard Drive Crash

Posted by Unknown  |  at  05:50

In addition to daily backup, I prefer to do a weekly backup every weekend. You should use one directory on your portable computer for long term backup. Particularly if you often download a software and don’t have any physical representative of it.
Re-arrange the directory structure on your desktop computer, creating one primary root directory, with a sub-directory for every application you use to work with. The sub-directories under the root “Own” are only to take the data files associated with Winword, Eudora or any other programs that create output.

Whenever you create or modify a file be sure to write/update the current data in a comment line near the top.

Finally, let’s not forget that, especially in computing there is hardly anything bad that wouldn’t have any positive side effect. Over a time a lot of  “scrap” will assemble on your hard drive. Nowadays that’s not much of a problem, just some wasted storage space. But remember the performance is diminished when the operating system has to struggle with a lot of complicated entanglements.

Following These Steps to Recover Your Hard Drive

First, turn off the computer. If the computer continues to restart after the Windows logo appears without giving a chance to access the desktop and a blue screen flashes for a split second, it is most likely a registry problem, virus or hard drive fail.
The impending loss of important documents and files is a sickening feeling, but there is a way to recover them before reformatting the computer. After the case is purchased, carefully remove the hard drive from the computer by detaching the connected wires, plug the hard drive into the case and it will act as an external USB drive.
Once this is completed, attach it to another computer and hopefully it will show up as another drive. If this works, simply drag and drop the important files onto the computer and back them up onto a USB stick or DVD disc. If this doesn’t work, the hard drive has either failed or it’s not connected properly.
Now that the file is safe, it is time to reboot the computer. Ideally, when a computer is purchased, the user will make a back up disc of the operating system in case of a meltdown. If you don’t have the disc, contact the company that makes the computer and perhaps they will supply one.

What To Do When Windows Won't Boot

Posted by Unknown  |  at  05:40

When windows fails to boot it is normally caused by you installing a program or device and it is caused a conflict with one or more other programs. This will no doubt give you plenty of heartache if you are  not certain which program caused Windows to not boot up.
 How to boot window 7
If you are recently installed a program or application and know where it was installed, you may be in much better shape as for as correcting the error. Here are common ways to correct the problem of you computer not completely booting up or not booting up at all.
If your computer will not boot-up at all, hopefully you have made a good emergency boot disk. You can always make a windows startup disk by creating one from another computer running Window 98 or Me. Perform the following if your computer…

Won’t Boot-Up All
First Put your boot floppy disk in the floppy drive and turn on the PC. On some computers, you may have to access the bios and select the Boot priority to your A: drive. Save any changes and select “Start Computer without CDROM support” and press Enter. Once you are at the A> prompt, type dir c: and press enter.

If your programs and other files are present, try restoring your system Registry by following the steps below. This may repair Windows, the Config.Sys and autoexec.bat files to where the PC may boot up normally. When the files are present, it’s a good indication of a good hard drive.
success window boot
Second to correct the problem of your computer not booting up, type in “fdisk/mbr” and press Enter to restore you master boot record. Type “Scandisk C:” to check the hard drive for errors that have occurred. You can also type “Sys C:” to hopefully restore files needed to boot up your computer

Third if the above procedure fails to repair your computer, you can repeat the first part of step one above and select “Start Computer With CDROM Support” re-install Windows.

How To Recover Deleted Files Without Using Software

Posted by Unknown  |  at  08:53

n this post I'm gonna discuss an easiest Data Recovery Method.
Sometimes we might have delete some important files accidentally and we need them back.
Today I'll show you a trick to recover your deleted files without using any 3rd party software. I'm not talking about restoring files from recycle bin.
This simple trick mostly works on Vista versions and all the Windows 7 versions.

So let's see how to recover deleted file without using any software

For example lets assume that you have permanently deleted "My Sweet Heart.JPG" from the folder named "My LIFE" ;) , and now you want to recover "My Sweet Heart.JPG" back.
Do this simple trick to recover your Sweet Heart.JPG
Right Click on the particular folder
Select "Restore previous versions"

That's all, now you will see a option to recover the particular file.

If you don't see "Restore previous Versions" by Right Clicking, Go to
Control Panel -->
System and Secutiry -->
System -->
Click on System Protection (in left sidebar) -->
Select the particular drive and Click Configure -->
Then select "Restore system setting and previous versions of files" -->
Now Click on OK

Note :
Previous versions come from restore points or from windows backup.
This trick will not work at all the time.

Saving Desktop Settings

Posted by Unknown  |  at  08:38

When I would go to Control Panel or Start Menu Programs, or any other Desktop window setting; meaning size, position, icon arrangement, they would never be as I set them. I found an answer:
At [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
There is a "NoSaveSettings" key. I deleted it and now my all my stuff stays where I tell it.
The same key shows up at:
[HKEY_USERS\bwil\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer](where bwil is your password profile) Just thought I'd share this with you all.

Backing Up The Registry

Posted by Unknown  |  at  08:26

There are many backup programs for the registry but if the computer goes down and you can't fire off Win95 because of the registry problem.
Backup to a directory the following files:
  • SYSTEM.DATA
  • SYSTEM.DA0 (Yes seem to be the same size)
  • USER.DAT
  • USER.DA0 (Same size likely)
  • WIN.INI
  • CONTROL.INI
  • SYSTEM.INI
These files can be copied to the windows directory from Win95 or DOS to help correct problems.

Hiding Any Combination Of Drives

Posted by Unknown  |  at  11:14

If you want to stop a drive or any combination of drives appearing in Explorer/My Computer
Add the Binary Value of 'NoDrives' in the registry at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
Give it a value from a combination of the table below:
A 1 00 00 00
B 2 00 00 00
C 4 00 00 00
D 8 00 00 00
E 16 00 00 00
F 32 00 00 00
G 64 00 00 00
H 128 00 00 00
I 00 1 00 00
J 00 2 00 00
K 00 4 00 00
L 00 8 00 00
M 00 16 00 00
N 00 32 00 00
O 00 64 00 00
P 00 128 00 00
Q 00 00 1 00
R 00 00 2 00
S 00 00 4 00
T 00 00 8 00
U 00 00 16 00
V 00 00 32 00
W 00 00 64 00
X 00 00 128 00
Y 00 00 00 1
Z 00 00 00 2
Where (for eg) you want to hide Drives {C,E,J,O,R,U,Y,Z} you would give 'NoDrives' the value 14 42 12 03
Where C+E = 14, J+O = 42, R+U=12 and Y+Z = 03
Please NOTE: The Numbers are to be added in HEXadecimal ie: ABCD = 0F, not 15 All Drives Visible is 00 00 00 00 All Drives Hidden is FF FF FF 03
